The Gotland fur sheep originates from Sweden and belongs to the Nordic primitive breeds, the so-called short-tailed sheep. They are best known for the utilization of meat, wool and fur. The distinctive feature of Gotlanders is their beautiful gray and curly fur.
As the Gotland sheep is a Nordic short-tailed sheep, they still have their original instincts. This means good maternal instincts, easy lemmings and high milk production. They are hardy and robust and thrive especially on large areas of land, making them perfect for landscaping, thereby actively contributing to high biodiversity.

The Vikings brought sheep with them on their raids into Russia. They needed meat for the long and strenuous journeys. On these raids, the Vikings encountered new sheep breeds such as Karakul and Romanov, which today are known as Persian and Swakara fur types. It is believed that the Vikings crossed their local sheep breeds with these and the Gotland fur sheep was born.

They are on average 100 cm long.
They are very beautiful and look great in a chair both inside and outside.
